Well, when my computer locks up the first thing that I think to do is to reboot. In this case it's my brain that appears to have locked up, and I'm just now beginning to really think about what this "metacognition blog" that we're discussing in Web Design II ought to be about.
I started this class with the idea that it was a follow-on to Web Design I and was more than a bit thrown by what I perceived as a lack of continuity. Web Design I was focused largely on the mechanics and tools involved in web design. My technical skills are good, and that all made sense to me.
Once I began the readings and study work for this class I found myself frustrated with the "soft" nature of the subject matter. I'm not an engineer but I'm also not an academic or a philosopher. Rather, I'm a business person and therefore tend to try and focus on rather tangible outcomes. The discussions of Web 2.0 were a prime example; I've already posted my thoughts on that subject but in essence I think that it's misguided to try and label something as amorphous as the web with a traditional software release oriented version number. The web and its successors will constantly evolve and the agile organization, be it an enterprise or an institution will simply adapt and capitalize on the new technologies and methods that become available.
So where does this leave me? With the beginning of the more deliverables-oriented assignments like the audio instruction object (coming soon) I'm starting to find my balance. I'll have that completed and posted soon and I'll blog my experiences in doing so. Meanwhile I'll participate as best I can and try to stay current by posting my thoughts here...
